Beads for Large RosariesLarge Rosaries use 10mm gemstones for the Our Father beads, and 8mm gemstones for the Hail Mary beads. When buying beads for a Large Rosary, keep in mind that a rosary has six (6) Our Father Beads, and 53 Hail Mary Beads. For this reason, I sell my 10mm beads in bags of six beads that I have hand-selected from my inventory, so that my customers do not have to buy more beads than they need.
Since a 16" strand of 8mm beads can have as few as 47 beads, a single strand is not enough to make a full rosary. For this reason, I also sell 8mm beads in full strands plus bags of six, so that the craftsman is sure to have the necessary 53 Hail Mary Beads. This works well for uniform gemstone beads like Black Onyx. But some beads are more variable, and the craftsman may prefer to work with a larger selection of beads, so that she can handpick the particular beads that she wants on her rosary. For this reason, I sell the more variable gemstone beads in lengths of one-and-a-half strands. This works well for beads such as Brecciated Jasper. |
Beads for Medium RosariesMedium Rosaries use 8mm gemstones for the Our Father beads, and 6mm gemstones for the Hail Mary beads. When buying beads for a Medium Rosary, keep in mind that a rosary has six (6) Our Father Beads, and 53 Hail Mary Beads.
For this reason, I sell 8mm beads in bags of six beads that I have hand-selected from my inventory, so that my customers do not have to buy more beads than they need. Since a 16" strand of 6mm beads will have more than 64 beads, a single strand is enough to make a full rosary. This allows the craftsman to handpick her beads, or alternately, to make a matching rosary bracelet from the leftover beads. |
